What is Altcoin (Categories/Type of Cryptocurrency)

• Altcoin or alternative coin is all of the cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin
• So we can simply say that memecoin, sh*tcoin, deadcoin and NFT is an altcoin. But remember not all altcoin is a memecoin, sh*tcoin, deadcoin and NFT
• But in my opinion, the meaning of altcoin should be change into any cryptocurrency that has a digital or real life property and capable of solving any real problem in digital and real life. (But who am I to decide right, so we will stick with the current meaning for altcoin)
• Most of the altcoin was created by developers that has a different idea in the utility and usage of crypto
• The first altcoin that was created was in April 2011 and it was called Namecoin (NMC) followed by Litecoin (LTC) and Peercoin (PPC) (Some source say that LTC come first before NMC)
• You can still find LTC and PPC on the crypto market and as for NMC there are some source that say that you can’t trade NMC anymore but based on my research there are still a lot of exchange that still allow NMC trading (I’m still planning to publish articles about all of this crypto in the future, maybe as early as next year)
• Some of the most well known altcoin is XRP (Ripple), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Cardano (ADA) and many more
• As of today, based on the MarketCap website there are over 22,000 amount of crypto that I can consider as an altcoin
