Definition

  • Block is a collection of data that contain a number of transaction information and the hash of previous block before it. This hash will link all of the block together.
  • This will make all of the block tamper proof because a change in a hash of a certain block will affect the other block and made it easily detectable.
  • The reason blockchain is called a blockchain is because all block inside a decentralized network are linked with one another by the hash creating a chain of block.
  • To made it easily understandable, imagine a block as a brick. Now, imagine the hash as a mortar that link together all of the brick to create a chain of brick. If one mortar was remove from any of this brick, the chain will be broken. This is a good example on how security around block really work.

Now let’s get back to my article.

How Block in Blockchain Work

A Miner Creates a New Block

  • Miner will compete with one another to solve a complex mathematical problem and who ever solve it first will have the right to create the new block.

The Miner Calculate the Hash of The Block

  • Hash is a cryptic combination of alphabet and number that was use as an identifier of a block.

The Miner Broadcast the Block Inside The Network

  • After this was done, they will be no way to remove the new block from the network itself.

Other Miner Verify the Block and Added it in Their Own Copy of Blockchain

  • All of the miner then update their own copy of blockchain to make sure all of them has the same version of blockchain.

Miner Confirmed The Block

  • After a certain number of miner added the block inside their copy of blockchain, it will be considered confirmed.
